We at Flex were lucky enough to speak to comedian Joe Caulfield ahead of her visit to Falmouth in the coming weeks. Mitch Waddon asks about her tour, writing for other comedians and the validity of chicken pasties. Have you always wanted to do stand-up comedy? I kind of ended up in it. Comedy was something I was always interested in but not in the way I am now because I didn’t have any idea you could do it as a job. It certainly wasn’t anything I thought about doing until a friend of a friend did an open show. I did think “how do you get to do this,” and he said “you just go and ask”. I couldn’t believe that you’d be allowed to do that. It wasn’t like you had to pass an exam. They’d say “yeah you can do five minutes and if you’re funny you can do another five minutes.” So how did your first set go? It went well! I got some laughs and I won the competition.
